Your Cart is Empty

If you own a classic car, you may want to feature it in your wedding photos. Maybe your big day doubles as your chance to climb behind the wheel of a leased Corvette or Porsche!

Either way, here are five tips for incorporating a classic car in your wedding pictures.

1. Prep Your Ride

Everything starts with preparation. Treat your baby to a hand-washed bath. Instead of scrubbing, which can damage the paint, take your time and let the ingredients in the soap do the heavy lifting.

Ensure you go over everything with a fine-toothed comb. Early rust damage appears in the form of nicks or chips in the protective coating, but they can quickly spread and become severe. Treat them when they are small — it’s wise to keep a tiny bottle of automotive paint in your garage for touch-ups.

2. Think Action

Posing around your car with your entire bridal party can seem a bit like filming an advertisement for your favorite ride. Unless you like the spokesperson effect, incorporate some action into your shots featuring your classic car.

Ideas include posing from behind with the “just married” sign and soup cans rattling or even vaulting into the window, “Dukes of Hazzard”-style.

3. Make It a Family Affair

If you bring little ones to your wedding, ensure you get them in on the action. Your little best man or flower girl will adore their pictures seated behind the wheel of your 1963 Corvette fuel-injected coupe.

If one or several of your relatives gave you the ride as your wedding gift, please include them in the photos. Let folks know who your photographer is so they can arrange to capture the magic reveal on film.

4. Set the Scene

Are you throwing a car-themed wedding? If so, you might already have a racetrack-like venue selected. However, if you don’t, take a tip from car commercials and select a photogenic location for a few shots, such as the Pacific Coast Highway or a nearby state park.

5. Try a Getaway Go-Pro

You don’t want to take your photographer with you as you escape your reception to honeymoon-ville. Why not consider using Go-Pro technology to film your getaway? This technique works especially well if you hit the road in a convertible and want to capture that wind-in-your-hair look.
