First, gather your materials. You’ll need to print this PDF by Lia Griffith in color, double sided, on regular paper or cardstock. Alternately, you can draw your own shapes on a piece of cardstock in your color of choice. You will want four larger petals, three smaller petals, a large circle, a small circle, and a star shape for the base. You’ll also need a pair of scissors, a glue gun, and floral wire—any size will work, but we used 16 Gauge wire. We also used half inch floral tape which is optional.
Cut out your petals, the star shaped base of the flower, and the black circles to make the inside of the flower.
Cut the black circles so they have a fringe-like edges.
Fold the edges upward by smoothing them along the side of your thumb. The smaller circle should be folded and shaped until it becomes a tight ball. The larger circle should be slightly more open.
Glue the smaller folded circle inside the larger one.
Now, cut two parallel lines into each of the petals about half an inch long. Curl and fold the edges of the petals against the side of your thumb to give them a wavy appearance.
Glue and overlap the petals until you’ve formed a flower shape with the larger petals toward the outside and the smaller petals inside.
Glue the black circles inside the petals to complete the flower head.
Next, bend your floral wire in half and string it through your star shaped cut out. Be sure to bend a little ledge onto the end of the wire where your flower head will go.
Glue the base of the flower to the bottom of your flower head.
Optional: Wrap the wires together using half inch floral tape .
